Sunday is Cake Day! #5

29/03/2015

Oh oh oh hello there!

In this 5th edition of Sunday is Cake Day I decided to do something Easter inspired.
I thought about the colours (pink, yellow and blue) and about the patterns usually present in chocolate eggs,  so typical from Easter season.

So I decided to spread these three main colours in different layers of a butter sponge recipe, separated by a nice layer of always-amazing buttercream. For the icing and decoration I thought a white and straight look would be good to contrast with the coloured layers so I gave sugarpaste/rolling icing a try. With some royal icing I did the patterns.  Finished by adding a bit of gold to the them.

My make-up routine

27/03/2015

As a modern woman living in London, I was forced to surrender to the magic of make-up.
I'm a very practical person who loves arts and sports, so I didn't really use it before I move here. Now I can't go outside without some foundation.
However I opt for keeping it simple.

Here's my routine:

Sunday is Cake Day! #4

22/03/2015

Hi everyone!

So for this 4th edition of Sunday Cake Day I went for cupcakes. I wanted to do something different from the usual buttercream on top, I wanted something without volume but still nice. I thought about royal icing and melted chocolate. I went for chocolate.

WRONG DECISION.
It was so difficult to do this one. I didn't know that chocolate was so difficult to model. You melt it, you wait for it to get some consistency so that it can hold, but obviously (dumb me sometimes) it's not a cream, so it just gets hard as it gets cold. There's no much to do with it.

Anyway I wanted to do some kind of grey and black fancy decoration, but ended up with this notsofancy but still delicious cupcakes.

White chocolate mixed with little black vanilla buttons to melt, made the grey.
The rest was just try to create something out of this insanely nothard but notthatliquideither chocolate that almost drove me crazy!

Well it was tasty anyway. Even if the look let me down, the flavour never does!
I also did a little something this time. I cut them in the middle and added some strawberry jam to the inside, covering it after. The result? A super delicious cupcake with a nice surprise inside!

Can't invite you for a bite, so please stay with the pics bellow :)

See you soon!

Relationship ABC: Plans

17/03/2015

A relationship is a constant change of plans.
When you're single you are plenty of dreams. You wish to be socially active,  have plenty of friends, invest in your career, study, travel, etc.
You even dream about finding the prince of your dreams (ladies?). Until you find this guy that changes your life.

Sunday is Cake Day! #3

15/03/2015

Happy Sunday Cake Day for everyone! :)

So this time I decided to try something very different from what I'm used to. For that I did a basic sponge cake and turned it light green and gave it some Pistachio flavour (with a bit of Vanilla).

For the icing and filling, I just went for an amazing dark chocolate ganaché.
Dark chocolate in pieces and hot double cream to a pan, melt it, mix it, let it dry. Yeay!
Two layers and that's it.

For the decoration I did basic buttercream and turned it light eucalyptus for the leaves and aqua colour for the roses and added a few dots to keep it simple but interesting.

This cake was so amazing! Not that easy to make, had a few issues in the middle, but turned out to be fine. And tasty. Sweet pistachio flavour and the sweet and powerful buttercream flavour cut by the dark chocolate ganaché created a very harmonious effect.

Lovely.

Have a look at the pictures and please don't forget to leave your ideas for my next Sunday is Cake Day!

I finally got my Style by Portobello box!!
For those who don't know I recently won a competition by Poppy Loves (sweet Poppy, thanks a lot!) and I won a cute box of vintage items coming straight from famous Portobello Market, in London.

Sunday is Cake Day! #2

08/03/2015

Hey there you cake lovers!

So this time I decided to give cupcakes a try. Never did it before.
I wanted something cute in tones of pink and cream, and this came out.
Tried a different flavour in the sponge itself, Almond. A-mazing! Loved it really.
The icing is a basic vanilla buttercream :)

Sunday is Cake Day! #1

Hi cuties!

So following my new inspiration for baking I decided to give it a try.
This is my first ever cake!
I was a bit nervous about it but it turned out to be fine.
For my first experience I decided to go with a normal chocolate cake with basic buttercream.
For decoration I used a blue marzipan rose, coloured (blue) buttercream and some white and milk chocolate for details.
